New Early Career Editor for Area Development and Policy

Mia Bennett is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Hong Kong. Her research focuses on the development of transportation infrastructure in places often thought of as frontiers, namely the Arctic and areas under China’s Belt and Road Initiative. She integrates fieldwork and remote sensing to understand the discursive and material practices surrounding projects like roads and highways at multiple scales. She is also founder and editor of Cryopolitics, a long-running blog on the Arctic.

Since January 2018, I have served as an Early Career Editor for the ADP. As the journal enters its third year, I look forward to encouraging the diffusion of geographical perspectives from the Greater BRICS region, especially from more rural and less sparsely populated areas. Such contributions can enrich our understanding of social and spatial difference in the world and allow geographical theories from areas commonly considered peripheral to enter into dialogue with those from the core.
